Microdermabrasion

The Microdermabrasion Procedure

Sometimes referred to as "The Lunchtime Peel," the microdermabrasion technique is performed on an outpatient basis. Its convenience is clear: it is quick, painless, and results can be seen immediately. No anesthesia is required and there is little if no downtime and few if no side effects. A full-face treatment generally takes 20 to 30 minutes, depending upon the extent of the procedure. The number of treatments recommended for maximal results can range between 5 and 12, spaced from 2 to 3 weeks apart. Maintenance of results requires periodic repeat treatments after the initial regimen is completed. Microdermabrasion may be combined with a light chemical peel to increase the effect. This procedure creates a polishing effect and leaves the skin feeling remarkably smooth. Since Microdermabrasion removes only the topmost layer of dead skin cells, it does not involve any pain or healing time.

After Microdermabrasion Treatment

The stimulated blood flow to the surface increases oxygenation, causing an enhancement of cell renewal and collagen re-growth.

The gentle massaging action of the microdermabrasion treatment creates a flushing and cleansing effect below the skin surface, resulting in a vibrant healthy appearance and complexion.

Some patients say their faces feel as if their skin has been mildly sun or wind burned. There may be some peeling. In cases of a deeper treatment level for more blemished or thicker skins, the skin will appear slightly red and swollen from the first few hours to several days. Make-up can usually be applied right away.
